Jenny Brooklin’s music is best described as bluesy, soulful alternative. A child of the 70’s, she is heavily influenced by classic rock, folk and blues icons such as Bonnie Raitt, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Stevie Wonder and Fats Waller. She often dabbled with the tape recorder as a child, recording music, news broadcasts and radio plays with her friends. Thus began her decades long career as a sound engineer, producer and multimedia artist. When she moved to the island in 2003, she spent 5 years composing, teaching animation and being a sound technician at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School. She has been a musical ambassador ever since in her community on Galiano, including running an open mic for over six years. For the last five years, she has been the music director and a performer for Tour des Iles - a three-day, multi-island music festival. You can often find Jenny behind the mixing board at Galiano events and for visiting bands.
Jenny lives on top of a hill overlooking the ocean in the forest on Galiano where she has recorded many of the tracks for her upcoming album. Drums, performed by Jason Cook, were tracked at Monarch Studios in Vancouver with engineer Elisa Pangsaeng. Trumpet and keys were performed by Jack Garton, recorded on Galiano. The upcoming album also features a guest appearance by trombonist Nick La Rivière, recorded in Victoria.
Jenny’s new single, Not Over You, is a soulful ballad which feels like it was directly taken from a page in one of her old journals.
